VEENENDAAL (19 December, 2017) – With 15 podium finishes from 18 races and top three results from every event in which the team participated, Ekris Motorsport enjoyed a truly extraordinary season. Ricardo van der Ende and Max Koebolt crowned their year of racing the Ekris M4 GT4 with the GT4 European Series and Northern Cup title wins. Recently, they were presented with the accompanying trophies during the stylish SRO prize-giving ceremony in Paris. The duo also were rewarded for their achievements in another special way with first place in the BMW Sports Trophy standings, the global competition for BMW privateer drivers, that attracted no less than 700 participants this year. For this achievement, van der Ende and Koebolt received the trophies during BMW Motorsport’s end-of-season festivities in Munich last Friday. Sporting icon and BMW ambassador Alessandro Zanardi was present to hand over the trophies and the cheque. In the final BMW Sports Trophy teams’ standings, Ekris Motorsport ended up fourth as the best-placed Dutch team.
“It is with pride and satisfaction that we are looking back upon a fantastic season,” team owner Dick van Ekris says. “Developed and built in-house by us, the Ekris M4 GT4 has more than proven its qualities and the same can be said about our team with loyal and dedicated team members who put in the best possible performance in all conditions throughout the season. The fact that our drivers Ricardo and Max came out on top in the global competition of 700 privateer BMW drivers says it all.”
The successful Ekris M4 GT4 currently is in the team’s workshop and is being prepared for the upcoming season. “We are in the planning process for 2018. We don’t know exactly what our programme will look like, but we are considering various options,” team manager Stian Boers explains. “We are expecting to have our package finalised early next year and after that, we will be in a position to announce our exact plans. Now, we will be enjoying a few quiet days so that we will be able to perform flat-out again next season.”
Ricardo van der Ende: “We have had a fantastic season. Receiving the trophies for our GT4 titles during the SRO gala in Paris was a beautiful experience. The success in the BMW Sports Trophy was great, too. A couple of years ago, I was runner-up, but now ending up in first place, together with Max, among 700 competitors from all over the world really is something special.”
Max Koebolt: “Last year was my first season with BMW and I had quite a lot of bad luck, but this season was fantastic, of course! It was my first time attending the BMW Sports Trophy and then being on the podium and receiving the trophy from Alessandro Zanardi was a fantastic experience.”
